Privacy Policy

Version 2026-10-03
This version is under legal review. The text below is what the company commits to today, and it may be updated when that review is complete.

Who operates Kareem Souq

Kareem Souq is operated by MaxLevels, a company established in Jordan, which is the entity that contracts with you and controls your personal information.

You can always reach us through the contact page: /contact

1. Who we are, and what this covers

This policy explains what Kareem Souq does with information about you. It covers the Kareem Souq website and app, everything you can reach from them — buying and selling, jobs, Kareem Marriage, Ride Together, Souq Community and the Business Network — and the messages we send you.

It is written for all ten countries Kareem Souq operates in: Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Lebanon and Iraq. The main text is the same everywhere, because the product is the same everywhere. The section at the end is different in each country, and it names the law that applies to you, the authority you can complain to, and the courts.

Where the law of your country requires more of us than this policy promises, the law wins and we follow it. We do not apply a weaker standard in a country with a weaker law.

2. The short version

We keep this list short and honest, and the detail is below.

  • Your phone number is your account. There is no way to use Kareem Souq without one, and it is the single most widely used piece of information here.
  • Your phone number and the full text of every message we send you — including your one-time sign-in codes — pass through outside messaging providers, and there is more than one. We try WhatsApp first; a message that cannot be delivered that way falls through to SMS. Every provider we try receives the number and the message. Section 8 explains it.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. There is no advertising code and no behavioural analytics in this product — nothing that profiles you, follows you between sites, or builds an audience out of you. Outside companies receive only what section 8 lists. Of those, Google's are three: crash reports from the app, fonts on the website, and — only when the assistant's understanding is switched on for your country — the text of messages you type to the assistant, with private details removed first.
  • Your precise location never leaves your device. When you use "detect my location", the coordinates are rounded on your phone to about a kilometre before they are sent, they are sent only to us, we do not store them, and the request does not carry your identity.
  • Identity documents and Kareem Marriage photographs are stored privately, never appear on a public page, and every single time a member of staff opens an identity document, that access is recorded.

3. What we collect

3.1 Your account

  • Your phone number. This is required — it identifies your account and no account exists without it.
  • Your name, and your name in Arabic if you give one.
  • Your email address, if you give one. It is optional.
  • Your password, stored only as a cryptographic hash. We cannot read it.
  • Your profile picture and the description you write about yourself. These are public — anyone can see them.
  • One-time codes we send you to sign in, and how many times each was tried.
  • A record of sign-in attempts, which we use to detect people trying to break into accounts.
  • Your city, your language and your notification settings.

3.2 Identity verification

If you verify your identity, we collect the documents you upload: a passport, the front and back of an identity card, and a photograph of your face taken for the purpose. We also keep a record of the review — who decided, what they decided, and the reason code they gave — and the state of your verification, including when it expires.

These documents are stored as private files. They are never served on a public page and they are not part of your public profile.

Every time anybody opens one of these documents, we record it — who opened it, which document, and when. That record exists so that access to the most sensitive thing you have given us is something we can account for rather than something we hope did not happen.

3.3 What you publish

Your listings, the photographs on them, the drafts you have not published, and the edits you propose to a published listing. Your offers, and your bids in an auction. Reviews you write and the people you follow. Listings and searches you save. All of this is information about you as well as about the thing you are selling.

3.4 Messages and contact

Private messages between you and other members, and the threads they belong to. Notifications we send you and whether they were delivered. Messages you send us through the contact form. And a record of when someone asks to see your contact details, and when you ask to see theirs.

Your phone number is not printed on your listing. Another member gets it only through the contact step, and that step is recorded.

3.5 Location

We collect the city you choose, and — for property listings — the location of the property. That is about the property, not about you.

Your device's GPS is treated separately and deliberately. When you tap "detect my location", your device gives us coordinates. Before anything is sent, the coordinates are rounded on your own device to about one kilometre. The rounded pair is sent to our own server and nowhere else. Our server does not store it, does not write it to any record, and does not log it. The request that carries it does not read your session at all — it has no way of knowing who asked. We then look up the nearest city from a list of place names we hold ourselves, and answer with a city.

This used to work differently. Precise coordinates were sent from members' browsers directly to an outside company, and nothing told anybody that was happening. We stopped it, removed that company entirely rather than moving the call to our servers, and we are telling you it happened.

3.6 Payments

If you pay to promote a listing or to buy a plan, we record the order: what was bought, the amount, the currency, when, and whether it succeeded, was refunded, or failed. Card details are handled by the payment provider — we do not receive or store your card number.

3.7 Jobs

If you build a CV on Kareem Souq, we store it. If you apply to a vacancy, we store the application and its progress through the employer's stages.

Your CV goes to the employer you send it to, and to nobody else. It is not browsable, it is not searchable by employers you did not apply to, and it does not appear on any screen inside Kareem Souq's own operator tools. Some employers ask to receive applications by WhatsApp or email instead; in that case your application goes to the address that employer published for the purpose, and the choice is theirs, made when they posted the vacancy.

3.8 Kareem Marriage

Kareem Marriage is optional, separate, and collects the most sensitive information in this product. If you create a profile, we collect:

  • Your date of birth. It is used to work out your age and to keep the service to adults. It is never shown to anyone, including you — the product does not send it back out at all.
  • Your gender, which you cannot change afterwards, because it decides who can see you.
  • Your first name, your description of yourself, and the traits you pick from a fixed list.
  • Your nationality, and a second nationality if you have one.
  • Where you live — country, city and area — and whether you would relocate.
  • Your photographs. These are private files, visible to you, to a match, and to the moderators who review them. Each time a moderator opens one, that is recorded.
  • Who you have liked and who you have passed. This is permanent, and it is a record of romantic interest in a named person.
  • Your matches, and the private conversation each one creates.
  • Your discovery settings — the age range, nationality and location filters you set.

Two things follow from being here at all, and you should know we can infer them: that you are looking to marry, and — from the traits list — things about how you live and practise.

A pass is never revealed. If you pass on someone, they are not told, they cannot find out, and it does not appear in anything they can see, export or work out.

Kareem Marriage pages are excluded from search engines.

3.9 Ride Together, Community and the Business Network

For Ride Together: the rides you offer or join, your route and departure time, and — if you offer rides — your vehicle details, which a moderator reviews before your offer can be published.

For Souq Community and the Business Network: what you post, comment and share, your stories, your reactions and saves, the businesses you connect with, and the quotes you request.

3.10 Safety and how the product is used

We record when a listing is viewed, contacted or saved, along with your account if you are signed in and an anonymous session identifier. This is our own record, kept on our own systems. There is no third-party analytics service in this product and no advertising identifier. The mobile app's crash reports are the one thing an outside company receives here, and only when the app breaks — section 8 says what is in them.

We also keep reports you make about other members and reports made about you, including the note the reporter wrote, and the people you have blocked.

3.11 The assistant

When you use «اسأل كريم» (Ask Kareem), we keep your conversation with it on our server: what you typed (with phone numbers, email addresses, links, chassis numbers and parcel numbers removed before it is stored), the buttons you pressed, and what it answered, such as search results, a land parcel's record you looked up, or a draft you were building. We keep it so the conversation carries on after you reload the page. It is linked to your account. No other member can see it, and our team looks at it only when needed to fix a problem or when the law requires. Starting a new chat deletes the previous one. Photos you attach to a message stay on your device and are not sent to us.

4. What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not share it for advertising, and we carry no advertising code and no behavioural analytics. (The mobile app's crash reports are not that, and section 8 names them.)
  • We do not send your precise location anywhere.
  • We do not read your private messages for advertising or profiling. Moderators read a conversation only when it is reported or when a legal obligation requires it.
  • We do not show your date of birth, and we do not show your identity documents, to anyone.

5. Why we use it

  • To run your account — signing you in, keeping you signed in, and letting you recover access.
  • To publish what you publish and to show it to the right people in the right country.
  • To connect you with other members — messages, contact reveals, offers, applications, matches.
  • To take payment for promotions and plans, and to handle refunds.
  • To keep the marketplace usable and safe — reviewing listings before they go live, acting on reports, detecting fraud and abuse, and enforcing our terms.
  • To verify identity where the product or the law requires it.
  • To meet legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests from authorities in the country you are in.
  • To improve the product, using our own records of what is used.

Where your country's law asks us to name a legal basis, ours are: performing the agreement between us, complying with a legal obligation, our legitimate interest in operating a safe marketplace, and — for identity documents, Kareem Marriage, and anything else your country treats as sensitive — your consent, which we ask for separately and which you can withdraw.

6. What other people can see

Public — visible to anyone, signed in or not: your name, your profile picture, your description, your listings and their photographs, your reviews, and public posts and stories you publish.

Not public: your phone number, your email address, your date of birth, your identity documents, your Kareem Marriage photographs and profile, your CV, your private messages, your saved listings and searches, your payment records, your reports and blocks, and your location.

Your phone number reaches another member only when you or they use the contact step, and that step is recorded.

7. How long we keep it

  • Your account and what you publish — while your account exists.
  • Identity documents — while your verification is valid and for as long afterwards as the law of your country requires us to keep proof of it. When that period ends they are deleted.
  • Records of access to identity documents — kept, deliberately, even after the document is gone. A log that is deleted with the thing it protects protects nothing.
  • Payment records — for the period the tax and commercial law of your country requires.
  • Consent records — kept for as long as we might need to show what you agreed to and when.
  • Moderation and safety records — including reports, blocks and enforcement decisions, kept for as long as needed to keep the marketplace safe, and longer where a dispute or an investigation is open.
  • Your conversation with the assistant — until you start a new chat, no longer than 30 days after your last message, and immediately if you delete your account.
  • Everything else — deleted or anonymised when we no longer need it.

If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information except where we are required to keep it, and except for records that exist to protect other people — a report someone made about you does not disappear because you left.

8. Who else receives your information

This is the complete list of parties outside Kareem Souq that receive personal information today. We keep it as short as we can, and we would rather it read long than read incomplete — so it names the ordinary machinery of a website (fonts, maps, images) alongside the providers you would expect.

  • Our messaging providers. Every message we send you — one-time sign-in codes, alerts, notifications — is delivered by an outside messaging provider, and there is more than one. We try a WhatsApp gateway first; if the message cannot be delivered that way it falls through to an SMS provider, and a one-time sign-in code is the kind of message that falls through fastest. Each provider we try receives your phone number and the full text of the message, including one that then fails to deliver it. We do not send email. We are naming this plainly because it is the largest single flow of personal information out of this product.
  • Our hosting provider. Running a website means a hosting company handles requests, which means it sees IP addresses and request details.
  • Our file storage provider. Private files — identity documents, Kareem Marriage photographs, listing images — are stored with a cloud storage provider, as private objects that are not publicly addressable.
  • The Jordanian land registry service, for property listings in Jordan only. We send a land parcel reference and receive information about the parcel. We send nothing that names you — the request is not authenticated and carries no account identity. Two things about it you should know anyway: the cadastre is reached through a public land-data service rather than by a direct line to the Department, and on the screens where you pick a parcel on a map your own browser makes that request, so that service sees your IP address and which parcel you are looking at.
  • A map provider, on any screen that shows a map — picking a land parcel, the land lookup, and Ride Together. Map tiles are fetched by your browser from an outside mapping service, which therefore sees your IP address and the area you are looking at. The mapping software itself is fetched from a public code network on the same screens, which sees your IP address too.
  • Google — crash reports, from the mobile app only. When the app crashes it sends a report to Google's crash service. It contains the kind of error, where in our code it happened, and the app's market, language, version and whether someone was signed in — yes or no, never who. It carries no name, no phone number, no member id and no listing. Google's own software adds the phone model, operating system, memory and battery level, and a random identifier for that installation, which is reset if the app is reinstalled. Nothing is sent while the app is working.
  • Google — fonts, on the website only. The typefaces the site is set in are loaded from Google's font service by your browser, which means it sees your IP address and which browser you use.
  • Google — the assistant's understanding, when it is switched on. When you type a message to «اسأل كريم» (Ask Kareem), our server may send the text of that message to Google's Gemini service, to understand what you are asking. Before it leaves our server we remove phone numbers, email addresses, links, vehicle chassis (VIN) numbers and land parcel numbers from it. Nothing else is sent with it: not your name, your phone number, your member id or your listings. We use Google's paid service, under whose terms Google does not use what we send to improve its products. Google may keep it for a limited time only to detect misuse or where the law requires, as its terms allow. This processing may take place outside Jordan. This is off unless we switch it on for your country, and the assistant works without it.
  • An image service for country flags, which draws the small flags in the country switcher and therefore sees your IP address.
  • The United States vehicle identification service, when you enter a chassis/VIN number while listing a car. We send the number — your browser does not — and receive the vehicle's factory specification. It is the vehicle that is identified, not you: nothing about your account is sent with it.
  • Payment providers, when you pay. They receive what is needed to take the payment.
  • Authorities, where the law of your country obliges us to respond to a lawful request. We give what is asked for and no more.
  • Another company, if Kareem Souq is ever sold or merged, in which case this policy continues to apply to the information transferred until you are told otherwise.

Employers you apply to receive your application and CV — see section 3.7. Other members receive what section 6 says is public.

9. Where your information is held

Kareem Souq is operated from the region and hosted with providers who may store and process information in data centres outside your own country. Where your country restricts transfers abroad — Saudi Arabia and Oman in particular set specific conditions — we transfer only on a basis that law allows, and we will tell you which basis if you ask.

10. Your rights

In every country we operate in, and regardless of whether your country's law compels it, you can:

  • Ask what we hold about you, and get a copy.
  • Correct anything wrong.
  • Delete your account and the information attached to it, within the limits in section 7.
  • Object to a particular use, or ask us to restrict it.
  • Withdraw a consent you gave, including for identity verification or Kareem Marriage. Withdrawing consent stops the future use; it does not undo what was lawfully done before.
  • Ask for your information in a portable form.
  • Complain, to us and to the authority in your country.

How to use them — and how it actually works

Deleting your account is the one right you can exercise yourself, in the app: Settings → Delete account. You confirm by typing `DELETE MY ACCOUNT` and by proving it is you — your password, or a fresh WhatsApp code if you never set one. Being signed in on the phone is not by itself permission to destroy the account, because whoever is holding the device already has a session. On the desktop site, ask through the contact page instead.

Every other right on that list is handled by a person, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. There is no "download my data" button. Send those requests through the contact page, or any of the support channels listed there. Tell us which of the rights above you want to use. We may ask you to confirm the phone number on the account — from that number — because handing somebody else's information to the wrong person is the failure we care most about avoiding.

What we commit to, for the requests a person handles:

  • We will confirm we have your request within 5 working days.
  • We will complete it within 30 days. If we need longer, we will tell you before that deadline, and why.
  • If we refuse, we will tell you why and how to challenge it.
  • We do not charge for this, and we do not treat you differently for asking.

On deletion, specifically. It happens immediately, and it cannot be undone. Your listings are withdrawn, your saved items and searches are deleted, and your name and number stop identifying you. Some records stay — the ones section 7 lists, such as the record of a verification we had to prove we performed, the record of a safety or enforcement decision, and a block somebody placed on you, which does not disappear because you left. Before you confirm, the screen shows you what will be deleted and what will be kept, each with a count and a reason, and you are given a reference number afterwards.

Access, correction and export are still done by hand. Export is the next of these we intend to automate; until it is, this section describes what we can do today rather than what we intend to do later.

11. Automated decisions

Some things happen automatically: listings are checked automatically for obvious problems, sign-in attempts are scored for abuse, and Kareem Marriage suggests profiles based on the filters you set.

No decision that materially affects you is made by software alone. A listing is approved or rejected by a person. Identity verification is decided by a person. An account is suspended by a person, with a recorded reason. Where a person decided something about you, you may ask why and you may ask for it to be looked at again.

12. Children

Kareem Souq is for adults. You must be 18 or older to hold an account, and Kareem Marriage is 18 or older without exception. We do not knowingly collect information about children. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.

13. How we protect it

Passwords are stored only as hashes. Identity documents and Kareem Marriage photographs are stored as private files and served only to those entitled to see them. Access to identity documents is logged. Staff access to member data is limited to the country a moderator works in, and moderators cannot act on their own cases. Every enforcement decision that affects a member is written to a record that cannot be edited or deleted.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach occurs that puts you at risk, we will tell you and the authority in your country as quickly as the law requires and as quickly as we are able.

14. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and equivalent storage for things the product cannot work without: keeping you signed in, remembering your country and language, and protecting against abuse. We do not use advertising cookies and there are no third-party trackers in this product.

15. Consent, and changes to this policy

When you accept this policy, we record that you accepted it, which version, when, in which language it was shown to you, and at which point in the product. That record cannot be edited or deleted, which is the point of it: it protects you as much as us, because it means nobody can rewrite later what you agreed to now.

If we change this policy, we publish a new version. When the change is one you would want to know about, we ask you to accept the new version rather than assuming your old acceptance carries over.

16. Complaints

Tell us first, through the contact page. We will respond within 30 days.

If we do not answer, or you are not satisfied, you can complain to the data-protection authority in your country. The next section names it. In Iraq, where there is no such authority, the next section says so plainly and tells you what remains open to you.

17. Contact

Write to us through the contact page on this site. Tell us it is a privacy request and we will treat it as one.

Country section — Jordan

You are reading the Jordan version of this document. Every country Kareem Souq operates in has its own section; the text above it is the same in all of them.

The data protection law that applies to you: the Personal Data Protection Law No. 24 of 2023, which came into force on 17 March 2024 and became fully operative on 17 March 2025. We handle your information in accordance with it, and where it requires more than this policy promises, it governs.

Where to complain: tell us first, through /contact — we will answer within 30 days. If we do not, or you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Council at the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.

Governing law: your agreement with Kareem Souq is governed by the laws of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Courts: the competent courts of Amman. This does not stop you using any route your country's consumer law gives you.

Consumer and commerce law that applies: the Electronic Transactions Law No. 15 of 2015 and the Consumer Protection Law No. 7 of 2017.

Land parcel details shown on property listings are looked up from the Department of Lands and Survey. That lookup describes the property, not you, and it is made without sending your identity.

The Cybercrime Law No. 17 of 2023 applies to what members publish here as it does anywhere else in Jordan.
